Breve biografía de presentación
El pintor Uwe Grumann nace en Hamburgo en el año 1913 y se traslada en 1937 a Chile, después de finalizar sus estudios de secundaria y titularse en Ciencias Económicas en Alemania. La situación política en Alemania y la amenaza de guerra le impulsan a quedarse en esa república americana.
Después de un prolongado estudio autodidacta de la pintura y el dibujo encuentra en el profesor Hans Soyka proveniente de Berlín a un sobresaliente maestro. Este también había encontrado en Chile una nueva patria. Más adelante y después del fin de la Segunda Guerra Mundial recibe nuevas enseñanzas, esta vez de Hartwig Mahrarens que trabajó por un largo período como pintor y dibujante en Chile.
Su primera exposición la realiza en el año 1952 en la Sala Negra, siguiendo otras en el Ministerio de Educación, en la Galería El Patio y en la Sala Beaux Arts, todas ellas en Santiago de Chile.
Uwe Grumann se hace acreedor de los premios Primero y Segundo en el Salón Oficial años 1952 y 1953 respectivamente. Simultáneamente participa como miembro activo en el Grupo Rectángulo que se inspira en las enseñanzas del Bauhaus.
Sus obras se exponen en Buenos Aires, Lima y México City. Además realiza exposiciones individuales en Santiago, Francfort, Kunsthalle de Hamburgo (1960), Bochum y Bad Homburg.
A partir de 1968 trabaja en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria donde residirá por espacio de 12 años en intenso contacto con los pintores locales. La cercanía con Europa le brindan nuevos incentivos y contactos comerciales. En 1969 expone en Las Palmas concretamente en la Casa de Colón a la que siguen otras en la sala Wiot y un Homenaje a Oscar Domínguez en la isla de Tenerife. En 1974 expone en Salzhausen y en Cuxhaven (Alemania) y en 1978 en la Sala Cairasco de Las Palmas.
En 1979 vuelve a Chile donde se hace acreedor del Primer Premio en la especialidad Plástica otorgado por el Circulo de Críticos de Arte de Santiago.
Desde 1999 hasta el año 2010 Uwe Grumann reside nuevamente en las Islas Canarias donde trabaja activamente en sus nuevos cuadros y collages y realiza regularmente nuevas exposiciones. En 2004 presenta una importante y amplia retrospectiva en la Sala Cairasco de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria y en el año 2005 participa en una muestra colectiva junto a importantes y conocidos artistas españoles tales como Antoni Tapies, Antonio Saura, Manolo Millares, Alberto Greco, Luis Feito, Rafael Canogar, Manuel Rivera, Francisco Farreras, Lucio Muñoz, César Manrique, Hernández Mompó, Pablo Palazuelo, Eusebio Sempere, Gerardo Rueda, José Guerrero, Esteban Vicente, Pedro González, Antoni Clavé, Ramón Gaya, Antonio López, Cristino de Vera, José Ortega, Juan Genovés, Equipo Crónica, Luís Gordillo, Eduardo Arroyo, José Hernández y Pepe Dámaso
El pintor Uwe Grumann fallece a los 97 años de edad el 15 de agosto de 2010 en Las Palmas, España.
Su obra pictórica y gráfica se encuentra en colecciones privadas y publicas en los distintos sitios donde vivió y expuso es decir países de Sudamérica, Norteamérica y Europa.

Uwe Grumann, im Jahre 1913 In Hamburg geboren begibt sich nach Besuch des dortigen Gymnasiums und Ausbildung als Kaufmann, im Jahre 1937 nach Chile. Die politische Situation in Deutschland und der drohende Krieg veranlasst ihn, in Chile zu bleiben.
Nach längeren selbsständigen Studium der Malerei und Grafik findet er in Professor Hans Soyka, Berlin, einen hervorragenden Lehrer, der gleichfalls in Chile seine neue Heimat gefunden hat. Später nach dem Krieg bekommt er weitere Unterweisung durch Hartwig Mahrarens, der für längere Zeit in Chile als Maler und Grafiker arbeitete.
Seine erste Ausstellung findet im Jahre 1952 in der Sala Negra statt. Es folgen Ausstellungen im Ministerio de Educación, in der Galerie El Patio und Galeria Beaux Arts.
Uwe Grumann wird mit den ersten und den zweiten Preis im Salon Oficial, 1952 und 1953, ausgezeichnet. Gleichzeitig ist er Teilnehmer der Gruppe "Rectangulo" die sich an den Lehren des Bauhauses orientiert.
Weiter werden seine Arbeiten in Buenos Aires, Lima und Mexico City gezeigt, während Austellungen in Santiago, Frankfurt, Kunsthalle Hamburg (1960), in Bochum und in Bad Homburg stattfinden.
Ab 1968 arbeitet er in Las Palmas auf den Kanarischen Inseln, und bleibt dort 12 Jahre in intensiven Kontakt mit den dortigen Malern. Die Nähe zu Europa gibt neue Anregung und eröffnet kommerzielle Kontakte. 1974 Austellung in Salzhausen und Cuxhaven, in Las Palmas Austellungen 1969 Casa de Colon und verschiedene Einzelaustellungen Galeria Wiot, in Teneriffa "Hommage à Oscar Dominguez" und 1978 in der Sala Cairasco in Las Palmas.
Im Jahre 1979 kehrt er nach Chile zurück und gewinnt dort den Jahrespreis des "Circulo de Criticos de Arte" von Santiago de Chile.
Von1999 bis 2010 ist Uwe Grumann wieder auf den Kanarischen Inseln ansässig wo er aktiv weiterarbeitet und seine Collagen und Bilder ausstellt. Im Jahre 2004 stellt er seine Werke in einer bedeutenden und ausfürlichen retrospektiven Ausstellung in dem Cairasco Saal der Stadt Las Palmas aus. Im Jahre 2005 beteiligt er sich zusammen mit den bekannten und einflussreichen spanischen Künstlern Antoni Tapies, Antonio Saura, Manolo Millares, Alberto Greco, Luis Feito, Rafael Canogar, Manuel Rivera, Francisco Ferreras, Lucio Muñoz, César Manrique, Hernández Mompó, Pablo Palazuelo, Eusebio Sampere, Gerardo Rueda, José Guerrero, Esteban Vicente, Pedro González, Antoni Clavé, Ramón Gaya, Antonio López, Cristino de Vera, José Ortega, Juan Genovés, Equipo Crónica, Luís Gordillo, Eduardo Arroyo, José Hernández und Pepe Dámaso an einer kollektiven Ausstellung.

Short Introduction
Uwe Grumann was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1913. After finishing the secondary school an graduating in Economic Sciences moves to Chile in 1937 where he decides to establish because on the German political situation and the war threat.
After a long and self-taught drawing and painting study he finds in the Berlin teacher Hans Soyka, who also found in Chile a new mother country, an outstanding master. Later and after the second world war Uwe Grumann meets a new teacher, Hartwig Mahrarens, who worked for a long period as painter and drawer in Chile.
In Santiago de Chile Uwe Grumann achieves his first exhibition in the Sala Negra in 1952 and afterwards others in the Ministerio de Educacion, in the gallery El Patio and in the Sala Beaux Arts.
In 1952 and 1953 he was awarded with the first and second prizes for foreign painters in the Salones Oficiales. Later he becomes an active member of the so called Grupo Rectangulo influenced by the teaching of the Bauhaus. Together with this group he exhibits in Buenos Aires, Lima and Mexico City and later in Santiago, Frankfurt, in the Kunsthalle of Hamburg (1960), Bochum and Bad Homburg.
In 1968 he moves to Las Palmas in the Canary Island (Spain) where he lives for 12 years, working intensively together with the local painters. The proximity to Europe offers him new incentives and commercial contacts. In 1969 he displays in the Casa de Colon in Las Palmas and afterwards he exhibits in the Wiot gallery and takes part in an homage rendered to the painter Oscar Dominguez in Tenerife. A year later other exhibitions take place in Cuxhaven and in Salzhausen (Germany) and also in the Cairasco gallery in Las Palmas in 1978.
In 1979 he returns to Chile where he wins the first prize conceded by the Circulo de Criticos de Arte of Santiago.
Uwe Grumann lived from 1999 to 2010 in Las Palmas where he worked actively producing new paintings and collages. In 2004 he presented his works in a large and important retrospective exhibition in the Cairasco Gallery from Las Palmas. In 2005 Grumann participated together with the well known and celebrated Spanish artist Antoni Tapies, Antonio Saura, Manolo Millares, Alberto Greco, Luis Feito, Rafael Canogar, Manuel Rivera, Francisco Ferreras, Lucio Muñoz, César Manrique, Hernández Mompó, Pablo Palazuelo, Eusebio Sampere, Gerardo Rueda, José Guerrero, Esteban Vicente, Pedro González, Antoni Clavé, Ramón Gaya, Antonio López, Cristino de Vera, José Ortega, Juan Genovés, Equipo Crónica, Luís Gordillo, Eduardo Arroyo, José Hernández and Pepe Dámaso in a collective exhibition.
Uwe Grumann died in 2010 at the age of 97 in August 15th. in Las Palmas Spain
Nowadays his pictorial and graphic works can be found in private and public collections in the different places where he lived and exhibitted, that means, in South America, North America and Europe .
